Mikrodotz band circa 1995

[One newly-remastered song (Stinky) was added 12-08-2017]

Composed by James Chandler Jr and David A Gray in 1988, except the song Stinky written by David A Gray.
Arranging: David A Gray; Engineering: James Chandler Jr.

I was never able to think up good band names and the name Mikrodotz is no exception.

The musicians:
____ Tim Strickland: Lead Vocal, Guitar, some Bass. Tim is a superior Bassist as well as Guitarist but due to my 1990's home studio limited track count, most songs used keybass.
____ Bob Courter: Drums and Percussion.
____ David A Gray: Guitar.
____ Randy Burt: Baritone thru Soprano Sax, leads and ensemble riffs on some songs. At that time Randy was still a university music student. Fine chops.
____ James Chandler Jr: Keyboards, Keybass, rare thumbfingered Guitar and Hand Percussion tracks.

This lineup never played a gig together and so far as I recall these songs were never played live. It was a busman's holiday project for fun with no commercial aspirations. We were doing various club work for a living except Bob Courter who preferred spot gigs and studio work.

Years ago when I initially posted this page, the songs were 192 kbps MP3 long ago ripped from audio CDs. From 2015 to 2017 I remastered the tunes from the original DAT mix tapes into 320 kbps MP3 and also 24 Bit Lossless FLAC. The last to be remastered was Stinky, which had been mixed to MacOS9 hard disk rather than DAT tape. I only recently located a CDROM backup of that old hard disk mix.

320 kbps MP3 audio fidelity is similar to conventional audio CD. Some authorities may claim that lower bitrate MP3 such as 160 or 192 kbps can have "CD Audio Quality" but I am not convinced. However 320 kbps MP3 is "pretty good". Possibly difficult/impossible to distinguish between 320 kbps MP3 vs audio CD except for those rare individuals gifted with golden ears.

24 bit lossless FLAC has the potential of "better than CD Audio" but no audio file format can have higher quality than the source audio. Low fidelity recordings will sound bad even on the fanciest file formats. Given a bad-sounding song, a high resolution container such as lossless FLAC will faithfully reproduce every subtle imperfection of the song's original horrible sound! In this way perhaps we can achieve PERFECT IMPERFECTION!

Song filenames are appended "RM2" which indicates "Remaster Two". In 2015 I did "First Remasters" whose song titles were marked "TheSongTitle_RM1". My first remaster attempt was not satisfactory so I tried one more time. Resulting in the "TheSongTitle_RM2" markers. Song Title tags inside the MP3 and FLAC files are also marked "RM2". That is because, if multiple versions of a song have different filenames but share the same internal Song Title tag, then it is difficult to identify different song versions as displayed in some MP3 players' song lists. If you already have earlier lower quality versions of these songs and then download the new versions then the "RM2" Song Title tags can make the new versions easier to identify in your MP3 player's song lists.

Click a song title to PLAY the MP3. Right-Click Download to SAVE the MP3 to your computer.

You can Download a Zip File containing all twelve remastered songs as 320 kbps MP3 [98.5 MB]

At the expense of larger file size you can Download a Zip File containing all twelve remastered songs as 24 bit Lossless FLAC [492 MB]. This zip collection of 12 FLAC format songs is big enough to incur a fairly long download time even with a fast internet connection.
